July 4, 2012

For many residents and visitors to Harbor Springs, July 4th is the best day of the year. People come from all over the world to celebrate this special holiday in Harbor Springs. It is quite simply, a celebration like none other.

What makes it special? The gorgeous setting along the water, an art fair, fabulous parade, fun run along the waterfront, street vendors, dog look alike contest, and fireworks shot from a barge on the water all contribute to an extraordinary day.

Downtown Harbor Springs is the place to be! The annual Art Fair in Zorn Park July 4th. Early in the morning of July 4th, the 3 and 10-mile Paul Revere Run begins at 8 a.m. on the waterfront.

The ever popular, hilarious, and outrageous Dog-Look-Alike contest, a fund raiser for the Little Traverse Humane Society, begins at 11 a.m. on the waterfront.

The July 4th parade begins at 1 p.m. This parade draws thousands of watchers who line Main and Bay Streets 6 and 7 people deep to see, and cheer for, the entries. Don’t miss this incredible parade.

One of the best ways to see Harbor Springs is from the water. Want to go for a sail on Little Traverse Bay? The Little Traverse Sailors offers free sailing tours of the bay following the parade from 3-5 p.m. To hop on a boat, stop by the Little Traverse Yacht Club's waterfront on Bay Street.

Throughout the day, area organizations host events such as a cook out at the Methodist Church on Main Street, and hot dogs and popcorn offered by the Kiwanis Club near the waterfront.

When dusk begins to settle, around 10:15 p.m., the fireworks begin. Great viewing spots can be found near Ottawa Stadium or at one of the city beaches.

The best Fourth in the North, the best July 4th in Northern Michigan is without a doubt in Harbor Springs!
